Imetrum launches ‘3D Precision Displacement Tracker (PDT) at the Composites Engineering Show 2015

Imetrum launch the new ‘3D Precision Displacement Tracker (PDT)’ the world’s highest precision camera based 3D measurement system at Composites Engineering 2015

Online PR News – 07-October-2015 – Bristol, Avon – This year at the Composites Engineering Show, non-contact precision measurement specialists Imetrum will be demonstrating its precision 3D measurement capability live throughout the show on Stand F111. Imetrum’s 3D PDT slashes setup times and provides richer data sets, without compromising measurement resolution or sampling speed. Pre-launch product demonstrations at world-leading universities and motorsport companies have already led to several system orders, and glowing feedback from engineers working with composite materials and aerospace alloys, with comments such as “we’re seeing things we couldn’t measure before” and “cut our setup time from 3 days to half a day”.

The 3D PDT uses pre-calibrated stereoscopic video cameras, combined with Imetrum’s patented Video GaugeTM software, to deliver precise non-contact measurements on any point that can be seen within the image. The 3D PDT eliminates the need to build frames for displacement sensors, bond strain gauges, run cabling or get too close to ‘hot’ objects, saving time and improving the safety of test environments.

Imetrum are already known for their measurement speed and accuracy, offering the fastest and most accurate video extensometer commercially available, which is commonly used for both routine testing and detailed investigations of all materials, including modulus determination of carbon composites, and elongation of plastics. The company recently commissioned rigorous and independent testing at 500Hz to ISO 9513:2012, Class 0.2, with the UVX flexi video extensometer received certification proving its accuracy and suitability to this standard (equivalent to ASTM E83 B-1).

Adding the capability to take 3D displacement measurements at up to 0.5 μm resolution gives the company’s customers a wider range of opportunities to benefit from the precision, real-time measurement speed (up to 1000hz) and efficient workflows of sophisticated Video Gauge™ software. Demonstrations will be held on Stand F111 throughout the show and staff will be on hand to answer any questions regarding the system.

Commenting on the system, Brian Lever, Sales Manager at Imetrum says: ““Non-contact measurement systems, including the 3D PDT and our video extensometers, are ideal for use in exacting market areas such as aerospace, automotive, defence, oil & gas, energy, R&D and high technology motorsport, where highly accurate measurements directly traceable to national standards are critical for their materials, component or sub-assembly development. With Video Gauge™, the industry has the opportunity for real time, accurate and in-depth analysis that can be reviewed in detail many times over, without the need to repeat the test.”

Note for editors
Imetrum’s product now has over 300 users worldwide and is a versatile, non-contact video based system that allows the user to test a variety of important parameters (strain, rotation, displacement etc.) in real time, in a single test. As the Imetrum system is video based, a record of the test can be saved so engineers can either post process the test or complete further analysis without the need for repeating the test, saving both time and money.
