Academy Medical & EnteroMedics Partner to Offer Cutting Edge Obesity Treatment to Government Markets

Exclusive partnership will expand Academy Medical’s product portfolio within the VA, DoD, and IHS for patients and clinicians.

Online PR News – 03-May-2016 – West Palm Beach – Academy Medical, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business distributing medical products nationwide, announced a partnership with EnteroMedics to exclusively distribute vBloc® Neurometabolic Therapy in to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), and Indian Health Services (IHS). vBloc Therapy, delivered by a pacemaker-like device called the Maestro® Rechargeable System, controls both hunger and fullness by blocking the primary nerve which regulates the digestive system. vBloc Therapy addresses the lifelong challenge of obesity by empowering people to take a positive path toward weight loss without compromising their lifestyle. This agreement gives Academy Medical the ability to utilize EnteroMedics’ specialized knowledge, expertise and network to expand our operations into the neurometabolic therapy environment.

“We are proud to become EnteroMedics’ exclusive government partner and broaden our reach within the VA, DoD, and IHS facilities across the country,” said Dan Shaw, President, Academy Medical. “We look forward to supporting them on their path to successful product commercialization by adding the vBloc® Neurometabolic Therapy to our various government purchasing vehicles and sales channels.”

The partnership leverages EnteroMedics’ experience with neurometabolic therapy - along with Academy Medical’s market experience, presence on purchasing schedules, and preferred vendor status within the US Government. This agreement will improve access to cutting-edge technology for patients in a variety of treatment settings in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, and Indian Health Services. Under the terms of the agreement, Academy Medical will exclusively distribute vBloc Neurometabolic Therapy into the federally funded medical marketplace.

"Our agreement with Academy Medical is yet another step down the path to making vBloc a widely available option for appropriate patients, including those who are veterans of our armed services," said Dan Gladney, EnteroMedics President and Chief Executive Officer. “We look forward to initiating training this year with surgeons affiliated with the VA in order to expand the geographic footprint of vBloc-trained facilities that can offer this unique and safe obesity treatment option.”
