MISSOURI TOURISM REIMAGINES WEBSITE WITH HELP OF STEADYRAIN

SteadyRain today announced the relaunch of the official tourism website for the state of Missouri, VisitMO.com.

Online PR News – 02-November-2010 – – ST. LOUIS – St. Louis based Internet strategy, design and development agency, SteadyRain today announced the relaunch of the official tourism website for the state of Missouri, VisitMO.com.

SteadyRain, the Web solution firm for the Missouri Division of Tourism, worked together with the Division and their agency of record, Hoffman | Lewis, to develop a site that features updated functionality that keeps the visitors to the state in mind. This functionality provides users with a variety of ways to discover attractions, accommodations, events, outdoor opportunities, and restaurants.

The updated site features significant changes including regionalized searches. This enhancement offers a Missouri map that highlights five regions of the state allowing a visitor to localize search results. When visitors select a region on the map, they are presented only with the listings and information that are relevant to that region.

“We’ve really tried to help the Division optimize the speed and ease of use of the website,” said Thompson Knox, Vice President of Internet Strategy at SteadyRain. “This relaunch is the culmination of many months work and upgrades and additions to both the public website and the tourism industry member portal. The new design and more straight-forward navigation really accent the improved functionality and content we’ve added to the system—all while maintaining and improving the tagging structure that is the foundation of the site.”

We are confident this improved site will assist them in selecting Missouri as a destination where they can find diverse options for their enjoyment.

Some of the most recent improvements include a custom article module that allows Division staff members to create articles and associate them to various listings and events within the VisitMO.com site and a coupons module that displays search-relevant coupons to visitors, which are managed entirely by industry members within the state.

“Travelers have many choices when considering where to take a trip,” said Katie Steele Danner, Director of Missouri Division of Tourism. “We are confident this improved site will assist them in selecting Missouri as a destination where they can find diverse options for their enjoyment.”

SteadyRain has also helped improve search through upgrades to the search bar by providing a partial-match, auto-suggest dropdown functionality. This helps intuitively give the visitor options to select from quickly, rather than having to wait for search results to return. If a specific listing or event is selected from the dropdown, the visitor is taken directly to the listing’s details. SteadyRain also integrated a tabbed result set format to provide a clean organization to the types of results returned and to provide results of every type above-the-fold viewing where previously results were stacked in a results list. Currently, these tabs include events, listings, articles, and coupons. However, there are plans to integrate even more content types within search results.

The next project to be completed will include a data import functionality that will allow the Division to easily work with other tourism organizations within the state to automate the addition of listings on the site.
